Brookhaven tennis teams, 10-2, head to playoffs

The Brookhaven High School tennis teams’ regular season came to an end at Brookhill on Monday.

Both girls doubles teams won hard fought matches in third set tie breakers to give their team a 6-1 victory over Wesson.

The JV ends their season undefeated at 11-0 leaving the future of BHS tennis looking bright.

Coach Nancy Fisher’s team challenged five schools this year with 6A status en route to the 10-2 record.

“Our kids have worked so hard and have had a great season.  Our JV team has been really strong. We are now ready for the playoff part of the season. We are fortunate that we had no match cancellations due to rain and that has allowed us to play some really tough teams to help us prepare for our playoff run,” Fisher said.

The individual district tournament is today at Natchez’s Duncan Park. The top two in each event will qualify for the state tournament to be held in Oxford May 7-9.

“I expect to qualify all of our players for the individual state tournament,” Fisher said.

The team playoffs begin on Friday, when Region 6 winner BHS hosts Region 8 runner up Long Beach at Brookhill beginning at 3 p.m.  This start time is earlier than the regular season matches.
